How do You Know What You Know?

Ali Campbell is an internationally acclaimed life coach; he has built an enviable reputation as a highly motivational Coach, Presenter, Therapist and Personal Trainer. An advisor to celebrities, business leaders and politicians and even royalty around the world. Ali is widely featured in the media, on Television, Radio and in print. He is uniquely placed to assist you to reach your goals.

I have built my reputation on being able to get results, FAST and often when many others have tried and failed. That’s why I often travel the globe working with rock stars, celebrities, diplomats and even royalty. So what’s the key to finding the answers? Simple, ask good questions…

One of the first questions I often ask my clients is ‘how do you know that?’

It doesn’t matter whether we are talking about a craving for a drink, or a cigarette or food the question is the same. ‘How do you know that you want that?’

You see while most interventions are concerned with the outside, I am concerned with what happens on the inside, that’s the bit you can control and I can influence quickly and easily.

Ok now, I’m going to make a massive generalisation here and say that almost all ‘conventional’ routes to change are external. That is they are concerned with things that happen outside of you.  Let me give you some examples… diets – the emphasis is on the food (which if the diet’s working will stay outside of you… tee hee!)

Or the dreaded slimming pills, while you obviously do consume these the solution is still one which is outside of your normal physiology, or and this is where I’m going to be a little controversial. Most talking therapies are also external. You know the type of thing where someone says ‘I can stop you doing that..’ The very fact that they are saying that ‘they’ can stop ‘you’ from doing that suggests that the change comes from them… you see my point.

Most conventional routes to change involve change on the outside, going without and trying to control the physical world around you. In my experience this is almost impossible to do and is the weakest possible way to do it. Have you ever tried to control your food intake by avoiding foods that are ‘bad’ for you and relying on your ‘willpower’ to keep you on track?

Did it work? NO! Of course it didn’t because you have it the wrong way round.

Now let’s look at things very differently… What if the solution was on the inside but that you just hadn’t been shown it yet? How cool would that be? How cool who it be to learn that you already have inside you all the resources you’ll ever need and that you can learn how to use your brain for a change in literally a few minutes?

Right, are you up for it? Great!

Ok- let’s go back to my original questions. ‘How do you know that?’ I’m sure you’ll already have noticed that this is an ‘internal question’ Try it on for yourself now. Think of something you normally can’t resist and ask yourself ‘how do I know I want it?’

The answer will always be on one of 2 levels – it’s either and Thought (level 1) or a feeling (level 2).

It’s either a thought like ‘mmmm that looks good, I’ll bet that would make me feel better’ or a physical feeling somewhere in your body. It might be light or heavy, moving or still, cool or warm but if this is how cravings show up for you you’ll know about it.

Now, and here’s the cool stuff… If it’s a feeling there is ALWAYS a thought before it. Simply the way we are wired up means that we cannot have a feeling without and thought, even though you might not even realise it’s there. Wouldn’t it be much easier to avoid that cheesecake if it were just a thought? Of course it would. You wouldn’t be fighting against your own very powerful brain chemicals for a start.  I’ll show you how…

But what if it’s already just a thought. Well that’s where it gets very simple although I must say  that doesn’t automatically mean easy… If it’s just a thought then. It’s just a thought, it’s not real. It’s just like any of the other 50,000 thoughts you have every day. It’s not real but I’ll admit it can appear very real, after all it’s in your head and in your voice so it must be right, right? Wrong! It’s just a though and when you are conditioned NOT to habitually react to your thinking (remember if you go straight to feelings you may not even be aware of Thought) you set yourself free. Free from craving free for compulsion free form eating that piece of cheesecake even though part of you doesn’t want it…

And that’s what my techniques do. They set my clients free from their thinking so they can live life on their terms for a change… It’s not about the cake, you’ll never control the world around you but you can control your relationship with it and your relationship with food….Oh and the really cool thing is that once you get it, once you naturally do things differently you can never go back to just the old way ever again. It’s as simple as that…
