Ok - Serious question. How do you see yourself?
Now, just go ahead and do it now, just close your eyes and make a picture of yourself, just exactly as you are. In fact, do you know what I’d like you to do, go and stand in front of a mirror, then close your eyes and make a picture of yourself, make a picture of yourself when you're sitting watching TV, make a picture of yourself when you're out walking the dog if you have one, make a picture of yourself when you're at work.
That’s right, now just get an idea of you the way you see you, notice what size you are in your mind's eye, notice are you older or younger? Do you have the same hair colour? Notice what you're wearing, do you look happy or sad? Do you look like you have energy or do you look tired? That’s it, and then I’d like you to open your eyes.
I’d like you to look in the mirror and I’d like you to notice if that image you have in your mind's eye matches the one in the mirror or not? What did you notice that’s different cause I’ll bet there’s quite a few differences, Now, here’s a little trick of the mind…
Most people when they do visualisation exercise get it a little wrong. When it comes to say ‘imagine yourself thinner’, you know, ‘imagine yourself thinner and before you know it the pounds will fall off and you’ll be thinner in no time at all’, you know all that sort of stuff. I’m sure you’ve heard it all before, well there’s a bit missing there…
It doesn't work quite like that, there’s a bit missing you see, you need to fully associate with the image. I’d like you to close your eyes and I’d like you to see yourself as you’d like to be. So this is a bit different, just see yourself now, the size you’d like to be with the hair colour you’d like to have and maybe also see yourself with more energy and looking younger and fresher. That’s it picture the ideal you.
Now, I’d like you to float into you, float into that picture so that you, (and probably you’ll have to turn round in your mind's eye) can see through your own eyes, hear through your ears and then feel how it feels to be the ideal you. That’s it… Because when you're looking at something from a distance, when you're looking at something from far away even a picture of yourself, effectively you're looking at just that a 'picture' of yourself. That's how your brain processes it.
When you did it before, when you just closed your eyes and visualised the ideal you all that says is that you have the ability to make a picture of someone who looks a bit like you but a bit thinner. It is not the same as fully associating with the image in your mind's eye, it doesn’t create the same neuro pathways.
So what I need you to do is to create a picture of the way you’d like to be and then float into that picture like floating into a new suit of clothes with your head on top. That’s it, so float into that picture, see through your eyes, hear through your ears, feel how that feels and then look at yourself in the mirror as the ideal you.
If you’ve got time I’d like you to do this just every day when you wake up. Just make a picture of the ideal you and float into it and then go about your day living from that place of already being the ideal you.
