Here are some popular fitness myths you may have heard and what I hear daily when teaching in fitness classes: Muscle turns into fat when you stop exercising Muscle and fat are completely different body tissue, it is impossible for one to become the other. It is definitely true to say that if you stop exercising you will gain fat, but this is because your muscle decreases in size if they are....

The answer lies in your metabolism, that little engine in your body that burns calories all day, every day. Because of genetics, some women burn fat faster than others. But age, weight, diet and exercise habits also play a role. s women age, their metabolisms slow down, mainly because they are losing five or six pounds of muscle each decade starting in the mid-20s. Which basically translates....

PULLED MUSCLES If you have pulled a muscle treat it with the RICE technique (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation). It may take a few days to feel better so wait until you have fully recovered before you exercise again. COLD OR FLU If you just have a cold depending on how you feel you can do a little exercise as it may make you feel better. However if you have flu like symptoms then rest....

As women we have a tendency to steer clear of weights. We’re afraid that we will end up big and bulky as opposed to lean and shapely if we do any type of resistance/weights based exercise. Women don’t actually have enough testosterone in their bodies to bulk up and for someone that did want to put on muscle it is actually very hard to achieve and requires a very specific training and....

Here are some great w orkout fitness tips: Always warm up before a workout for 5- 10 mins as this gets your body and muscles ready for exercise and prevents injuries. Question: Help! – How do I get rid of the fat round my hips, bum and thighs. Eating plenty of protein will help to control your appetite - it’s that element in a meal that leaves you with that satisfied feeling. It is essential for building lean muscle and lean muscle in turn increases your metabolism. A fist-sized portion is a good indicator of the amount of protein required. Good sources of protein are lentils, beans, chicken, turkey, fish or lean beef.

Don't assume that scales are the best way of monitoring your efforts to lose weight. If you are exercising quite a bit, you may be putting on muscle but losing fat, which means you're actually losing inches. Go by your clothes and how you're feeling or you could take some measurements of your chest, waist and hips and re do these after a few weeks to see how your doing.

When doing a resistance exercise – always remember to breath. Breath in on the easy part of the exercise and out on the effort. For example, when doing a press up breath in on the phase towards the floor and out on the effort when you're pushing back up. This way you are ensuring you get oxygen in the muscle on the easy phase of the exercise ready to exhale on the effort part. It....

Skipping meals could actually mean that you are slowing down your metabolism. When this happens it makes losing weight and toning up very difficult. If your calorie intake is too low not only will you lack energy but your body will end up holding onto fat instead of letting it go!! I have so many clients that say to me "but I hardly eat anything" and "I....
